IT Infrastructure Management Framework

I'm sure IT Managers are convinced about the importance of implementing a framework in managing IT infrastructure. Best practices should be implemented and standards followed in the IT profession. But the big question is: what constitute a best practice? And how do we implement one?

The Information Technology Infrastructure Library or ITIL is a good start. Although it is quite complicated, owing to the fact that it was originally developed by a British government agency as part of the government's effort to improve its own service levels and cut costs, we don't have to implement all the components in the framework. We can start small.
